Pre-op Instructions

Nothing by Mouth

If you are having surgery from 6 a.m. to noon:
Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before the surgery, not even water. NO GUM, MINTS, OR CANDY.

If you are having surgery after 12 noon:
Do not eat solid food after midnight. You may have clear juice (not orange juice), coffee without milk, or tea before 6:30 a.m. After 6:30 a.m. do not eat or drink, not even water. Do not use breath mints, tobacco, or chewing gum.

*AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR SMOKING TWENTY-FOUR HOURS PRIOR TO SURGERY.

Medications

If you are on medicines for high blood pressure, take your pill with a small sip of water at the usual time.
If you are on medicines for seizures, take your pill with a small sip of water at the usual time.
If you are a diabetic and on insulin, please get special instructions from your doctor.

Please make sure and clear all of the above instructions with your doctor first.

Need to Reschedule

If for any reason you cannot keep your scheduled appointment for surgery, or you notice the following, contact your doctor immediately:
You suspect that you are pregnant
You experience any change in your health such as a cough, fever, or a cold
